To use any of our adaptors, whether Standard or Compact, you will need the Tesla 16A blue adaptor for the Gen2 UMC. This carries the part number 1104947-00-A. Please check in your square UMC bag that you have it otherwise you will have to order it from Tesla directly as Xavelec cannot supply this Tesla part.
With the Tesla 16A blue UMC adaptor, you have two ranges of adaptors to choose from: the “Standard Blue” range and the “Compact Blue” range.
Unfortunately, unlike the Gen1 UMC, the Gen2 UMC does not support three-phase, so you are limited to single-phase options. There is an optional 32A blue CEE Commando adaptor available from Tesla directly which will allow you to charge at 32A single-phase (around 7kW), but this adaptor can only be used with our Compact Red extension leads combined with the Compact 32A Blue adaptor pair . The key benefits the Compact system has to offer are size, waterproofness, ease of use and cross-compatibility with Gen1UMC (with the Compact Red UMC adaptor).
Gen2 UMC adaptors by country
You can click on the links below to jump directly to the coloured country:
Blue countries – Schuko sockets
Found in most European countries.
These countries use the standard Schuko socket with earth contacts at the top and bottom.
The Gen2 UMC automatically fixes any phase issues which can appear with the Gen1 UMC, so no phase inversion adaptors are required.
Red countries – French sockets
France, Corsica, Belgium, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia.
These countries use a modified French (Type E) socket where the earth connection is a pin protruding off-centre, at the top of the socket. Our Standard Blue Schuko adaptor will plug into these sockets. As phase issues are automatically managed within the Gen2 UMC, it doesn’t matter that the plug can only be inserted one way up.
Blue / Cyan – Italy
Covering Italy and Sardinia
In Italy, you can use the Schuko adaptor in the “Bipasso” sockets commonly found which are like a Schuko socket but also have a centre hole for earth. These are commonly found across the country, and in this case, you can use the Schuko adaptor mentioned previously.
There might be occasions however when the Bipasso sockets aren’t available in which case you’ll need dedicated Italian plug adaptors because whilst the Schuko would plug into it, there won’t be an earth connection.
Two different sizes exist: a 10A and a 16A plug (technical designation is CEI 23-50 S11 and CEI 23-50 S17 respectively). The 16A version has the pins spaced further apart than the 10A version where the pitch is identical to the Schuko plug.
Pink – Switzerland
Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
The Swiss also have their own type of plugs which are slightly different. 16A and 10A versions exist, each in both single phase and three-phase variants. Their plugs and sockets are a rather elegant solution in that you can plug in a lower-powered plug into a higher-powered socket (but not the other way around). The three-phase variants aren’t listed here because the Gen2 UMC cannot benefit from the extra power available.
A Type 12 adaptor will plug into Type 15, Type 23 and Type 25 sockets.
A Type 23 adaptor will plug into Type 23 and Type 26 sockets.
- SEV Type 12 – 10A 3-pin round – 2.3kW
- SEV Type 23 – 16A 3-pin square – 3.7kW
Green – Denmark
The Danish standard socket is similar to the French one with the earth offset, however, the socket has a hole for it instead of the protruding pin found on the French version.
Orange – UK and ROI
Adaptors for the ubiquitous UK 13A 3-pin plug.
There are a couple of scenarios where you might want to use this adaptor instead of the Tesla-supplied one. If you have some of our standard three-phase extension leads, then you can use them with the adaptor. It also allows you to increase the charge current from the 10A maximum via the Tesla adaptor to 12 or 13A if you’re sure the circuit is well designed and can handle the load. Please remember to dial down from 16A or you will blow the fitted 13A fuse.
As well as a single plug adaptor, we also have a 4-gang socket which can be useful when used in conjunction with our extension leads. In this case, the 4-gang socket adaptor plugs into the end of the 3-pin plug adaptor (or extension lead). You could then use the Tesla-supplied 13A plug adaptor to charge your car at 10A leaving a few amps available for other low-powered devices such as laptops and mobile phone chargers.
Industrial adaptors
In addition to the various domestic sockets and corresponding adaptors you will find across Europe, there are also a range of industrial CEE / Commando sockets found on various sites ranging from factories to marinas and camping sites:
- 32A 3-phase Red CEE / Commando: with the 32A to 16A, you can charge at 3.7kW.
- 16A 3-phase Red CEE / Commando: with the 16A Red to Blue, you can charge at 3.7kW.
- 32A single-phase Blue CEE / Commando: you are better off obtaining the 32A Gen2 UMC pigtail from Tesla so not be limited to 16A via a Xavelec adaptor.
Blue CEE Commando single-phase Extenson Leads
With these extension leads, you can extend the reach should you not be able to have your vehicle parked near enough to the power outlet for the length of the UMC cable to reach.
Various extension leads can be daisy-chained if required, but please remember these are IP44 splashproof only and so you should ensure they cannot be submerged in water. The Compact system doesn’t suffer from this.
Also, you should keep total cable length to a minimum so do not use an extension lead unless it is required in order to minimise voltage drop and reduced charge speeds.

Compact Blue Extension leads
You can use our Compact Blue extension leads to increase the available reach from the power outlet to your vehicle. Unlike the Standard Blue single-phase Extension leads, these are fully waterproof and can be left in the rain without fear of them ending up in a deep water puddle.
The Compact Red range of extension leads uses the same set of Compact connectors as the Compact Blue range, except that the Blue range doesn’t support three-phase power. If you have some Compact Red leads, they can be used with Compact Blue ones with the Gen2 UMC.
